Stop Hiding Your CTA: Why Your Website Isn’t Getting Clicks
You spent hours perfecting your website. Your colors pop, your fonts are on point, your brand voice is chef's kiss. But... crickets. No inquiries. No sales. No sign-ups. You check your analytics and sigh. People are visiting, but they're not taking action.
The problem? Your call-to-action (CTA) is hiding like it’s in witness protection.
Whether you're a coach, creative, or service provider, your CTA is the bridge between "just browsing" and "shut up and take my money." If people aren’t clicking, there’s a good chance you’re either not asking clearly enough, or they don’t know where to look.
Let’s fix that.
1. You’re Using Soft Language (a.k.a. Vague-ville, Population: You)
"Learn More." "Discover Now." "Explore." Cool verbs if you’re writing a travel brochure. Lousy for conversion.
Soft CTAs lack clarity and urgency. People need specifics. If your button doesn’t tell them what they’re getting and why they should care right now, they’ll keep scrolling.
Fix it: Use punchy, directive phrases. Try:
"Book Your Free Call"
"Grab the Website Polish Kit"
"Start Your Brand Makeover"
"Download the Cheat Sheet"
The more specific, the better.
2. You Have One CTA and It’s at the Very Bottom (Bless Its Heart)
Here’s the deal: not everyone reads to the end. That one lonely CTA in your footer? It’s not doing the heavy lifting.
People need multiple invitations throughout the page—and especially above the fold.
Fix it:
Add a CTA button to your hero section.
Sprinkle CTAs after every major section (testimonial, service, FAQ).
Include a final CTA that wraps up the page with a clear next step.
This isn’t pushy. It’s practical.
3. Your CTA Doesn’t Match the Page
If someone’s on your About page and your CTA is "Download the Ultimate Lead Magnet Generator Toolkit," it feels random. Like someone yelling "FREE TACOS!" during a TED Talk.
Your CTA should match the intent of the page.
Fix it:
On your Services page? CTA = "Book a Discovery Call"
On your Blog? CTA = "Get More Tips Like This in Your Inbox"
On your Homepage? CTA = "Work With Me" or "See the Packages"
Keep it aligned.
4. Your Button Looks Like Every Other Link
Design matters. If your CTA blends in with your body text or your button is the same color as your background... we have a problem.
Your CTA should scream (politely): "Click me!"
Fix it:
Use a bold, contrasting color.
Make sure it’s sized appropriately.
Use white space to give it breathing room.
Don’t overload with 6 buttons in a row. One strong button beats a cluttered pile.
5. You Don’t Tell Them What Happens Next
People fear the unknown (and spam). If your CTA says "Subscribe Now" but they don’t know what they’re subscribing to, they’re not gonna click it.
Fix it: Add microcopy that explains exactly what they’re getting.
Example:
CTA: Get the Free Checklist
Microcopy: No spam, just practical fixes you can do in an hour.
That little reassurance goes a long way.
6. You Assume They Know What to Do
Just because you know your services are bookable through your Contact page doesn’t mean your visitor does. You have to tell them. Multiple times. Clearly.
Fix it: Spell it out. Don't assume. Guide them.
Examples:
"Not sure where to start? Book a free 15-minute consult."
"Like what you see? Let’s work together."
"Ready to uplevel your brand? Here's how."
7. Your CTA Isn’t Focused on Them
"Schedule my free call." "Download my PDF." "Check out my portfolio."
Your CTA should frame the benefit from the visitor’s perspective.
Fix it: Flip it. Make it about the reader.
"Get clarity on your brand direction"
"Learn the 5 things holding your website back"
"See how your business could stand out online"
When people can imagine themselves in the outcome, they click.
Bottom Line: CTAs Aren’t Just Buttons. They’re Conversations.
Your CTA is the turning point. It’s where browsing becomes booking. Reading becomes subscribing. Interest becomes action.
If you’re not getting the clicks you want, don’t blame your audience. Blame your CTA.
